For the Love of the Animals

What is it about animals that just tugs on my heart strings?! Shortly after we got married, I asked (perhaps begged is a better word) Trevyor to get me a puppy. I honestly think he was getting ready to give me the okay when...bbrriinnggg!!

The phone rang...

I remember my mom saying, "Aunt Barb found this...well...stray dog. He has been roaming the fields near her house and they are looking for a good home." GASP! It was FATE! Five minutes of diliberation later, I called back and said... "We want him!!"

I thank God every single day we did. If you know me, you might assume that 2 minutes after this phone call I had a name picked out for our new little family member. Oliver the Orphan. Needless to say, Oliver is no longer an orphan! He is now lovingly known as Ollie, OllieBear, Boo boo, Tubby, and Love Muffin. Hey--they always say people give nicknames to the ones they love. ;-)

I know that dogs may not be for everyone...but we will ALWAYS have one. =-) The other day Trevyor told me, "Honey, you made me a dog lover." TALK ABOUT HEART MELT! So with this in mind I urge you to just think about it. There are so many animals in need of loving homes.

A really great quote from the movie Marley and Me... "A dog has no use for fancy cars or big homes or designer clothes. Status symbol means nothing to him. A waterlogged stick will do just fine. A dog judges others not by their color or creed or class but by who they are inside. A dog doesn't care if you are rich or poor, educated or illiterate, clever or dull. Give him your heart and he will give you his. — John Grogan

Celebrate ELVIS!

I have a confession...ever since I was a little girl I have LOVED Elvis! Ok...some of you may be thinking/saying- "What in the world?!" But...it's true. Actually, there is a link that has held me to this Elvis infatuation that you may not know about. My grandpa and I would watch Elvis movies every time I went to visit him and we always got a kick out of them. I clearly remember sitting smack dab in front of the tv, singing songs like Rock-a-hula, Viva Las Vegas, Blue Hawaii, --well--you get the picture!

Today is the birthday of the King of Rock and Roll (January 8, 1935) so it is fitting that I blog about him. =-) In thinking about this, I began wondering what it would be like in Memphis today and this got me VERY excited to share some pix of my very own trip to GRACELAND!

Yes friends, it had been a long time coming but this past summer my girlfriends took me to the home of Elvis! We were traveling to Florida for a girls week on the beach when Maggie said...

"Well, are we stopping?"

Amanda comes back with..."Yes. We have to for her!"

Dazzle wasn't feeling so hot after a 5-hour energy drink so she probably said something like..."Is there a bathroom?" =-)

Sure enough-after fighting our way through Memphis streets (literally-we took a few wrong turns)- we arrived at the infamous Heartbreak Hotel!

And THIS ladies and gents...is why I have the BEST friends in the universe!

Simple Treasure #1...Feeling SO blessed =-)

Today is one of those days I just feel completely BLESSED! One of the major perks of being a teacher is having an occasional SNOW DAY! I walked outside this morning and felt as though I was in a giant snow globe. =-) Then I got to thinking of all the things I'm thankful for...I guess beautiful snow and a day to relax does that to ya! Trevyor and I have been very blessed the past few years. We got married, rescued our little pup, and even bought a house! Here are a few of our favorite pix. =-) I wonder what is in store in 2010!
